UT Budget gear up 47 % over last year while mc rises rs 100 crore

chandigarh, Sanjay Pahwa :- UT budget gear up this year over Rs 100 crore. The Budget was presented by Chandigarh Mayor Ravinder Singh Palli. City can look forward to better Education, Health, Police modernization, Upgradation of UT staff accommodation. The councilors questioned the corporation official on the reduction of revenue and failure to use the allocation optimally in the year 2010 – 11. A provision for Rs 15 Crore has been made for grants-in-aid to the Municipal Corporation in respect of the newly transferred departments. This includes Rs 5 Crore for primary health and Rs 5 Crore for carrying out Civil works. The plan-head expenditure in the year 2009-10 was Rs 98 Crore, while it was only Rs 88 Crore this year. The officials said the MC expenditure would go up to Rs 110 Crore by the end of this fiscal year in March. Quoting figures, Commissioner Roshan Sunkaria said in the past 11 months, the MC had completed 323 works worth Rs 33 Crore, and in a few more months, it will finish works worth another RS 10 Crore.
During the Budget meeting Congress Councilor Chander Mukhi Sharma criticised MC officials for not performing their duties diligently. He also proposed that to check paper wastage the agendas should be sent on the mail to the coumcilors as they all had Laptops now. Opposition councilor Harjinder kaur sought Mayor’s permission to either read out her objections to the minutes of the meeting or hand it over in writing. There was a ruckus by both opposition and the ruling councilors on the issues relating to January’s 162nd meeting. The nominated councilors asked the elected councilors to resolve the issue first so that the budget could come up. The estranged Congress councilor Jagjit singh Kang also distributed the videography of the minutes to the media.
