DR. UMA SHARMA BESTOWED WITH A KESRI WOMEN AWARD

Chandigarh, Sanjay Pahwa :
Dr. Uma Sharma social worker has been bestowed with a Kesri Women Award on the occasion of International Women Day in New Delhi. She is the only women from the Punjab State who was amongst the 48 women selected from all over India out of 80,263 entries. Mrs. Renuka Shah Nawaz gave away this award in the categories of social work to Dr. Uma Sharma during an international function organized by Punjab Kesri Delhi.
It may be recalled here that Dr. Uma Sharma who is presently discharging her duties as senior Information & Public Relations officer in the Department of Information & Public Relations Punjab posted at Chandigarh got the inspiration to become a social activist from her freedom fighter father late Dr. Gobind Ram Sharma from Fazilka.
Dr. Uma Sharma who is the president of Bharat Vikas Parishad Mohali, Nari Shakti Sabhyachark Mohali, Nand Lal Noorpuri Sabhyacharak Manch Mohali and Dr. Gobind Ram Welfare Society Fazilka, Chief Advisor Malwa Women Association Mohali, General Secretary NSS helpline Mohali, Vice president Public Relations Council of India Chandigarh Chapter, Patron Consumer Forum Mohali, Executive Member Prerna Society Mohali and Shaheedon ki Smadh Asif Wala Fazilka has been actively involved in bringing social awareness in the masses regarding education healthcare, female foeticide, drug-de-addiction in general and protection of women right in particular.
Appreciating the life time achievement of Dr. Uma Sharma Mrs. Kiran Chopra Chairperson Varishat Nagrik Kesri Club Delhi said, " All the awardees through out India have been short listed in three stages by the panel of selectors and jury members and I being a daughter of Punjab congratulate Dr. Uma Sharma for this rare honour and hope that she will continue her endever to promote women folk in the state in future with more enthusiasm and zeal.
On the occasion Mrs. Sushma Swaraj leader of opposition Lok Sabha Delhi was the Chief Guest, Mrs. Kiran Bedi, Mrs. Sangeeta Jetli and Miss sonakshi Sinha was the guest of honour.
