Annual Prize Distrbution Function-G.C.G.-11

Chandigarh: Sanjay Pahwa : The 55th Annual Prize Distribution Function of Post-Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh was held today. Shri Pradip Mehra, I.A.S, Adviser to Administrator, Chandigarh Administration, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Sh. Abhishek Dev, I.A.S, S.D.M East and Joint-Secretary Home, Chandigarh Administration, was the Guest of Honour. The function began with invocation of Goddess Saraswati by the students.
Chief Guest Shri Pradip Mehra gave away the prizes to the students who excelled in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities. Congratulating the prize winners on the occasion, Shri. Mehra appreciated the efforts put in by the faculty members and the hard work of the students. Stressing the significance of education he said that Education leads to multi-faceted development and an educated person becomes analytical and a rational judge of national and international issues. He emphasised that women have a crucial and deciding role to play in making India an economically developed nation. He viewed that modern era has adequate employment opportunities for educated women, wherein they can serve as qualified and skilled work-force. He further added that women education can certainly restrict population growth in our country. Earlier presenting the College Annual Report, Mrs. Achla Dogra, Principal of the college, highlighted the glorious achievements of the students in the fields of academics, extra-curricular activities and sports at the university, inter-university, state and national levels.
  • As many as 489 prizes were awarded to the students in various categories.
  • 287 students bagged prizes for their academic performance.
  • 101 students won prizes for their excellence in extra-curricular activities like public speaking, dance, vocal music, instrumental music, drawing and painting, dramatics etc. Editors of College Magazine, Members of Students Council, and Presidents of various departmental societies and winners of library competitions were also honoured.
  • 34 students were awarded the College Colour.
  • 19 students were awarded the Roll of Honour in sports for their achievements at the various inter-university, state and national level championships.
  • 7 students were awarded the Roll of Honour for extra-curricular activities.
  • 2 Cadets of NCC were awarded- Sr. Under Officer Priyanka for Army Wing and Sergeant Sukanya for Air Wing.
  • Ms. Kulwinder Kaur was awarded for being the Best volunteer of NSS.
  • Ms. Surbhi Sharma of B.Sc-I(N.M) was given an award for Best All Round Player of the year.
  • Ms. Ishwar of B.A-I was given award for All Round Best Athlete of the year.
  • Ms. Ashu Rani of B.A-III was awarded the Nirmal Vasudeva Scholarship of Rs. 6000/- which is awarded to a meritorious needy student in the memory of Smt. Vasudeva, wife of Sh. K.D.Vasudeva, Former Chief Secretary, Punjab.
  • Ms. Anamika of B.Sc-III(N.M) was awarded M.C. Bhatia Award of Rs.1500/-instituted by Mrs. Kamlesh Chopra as the Best All Round Physics student.
  • Ms. Harwinder Kaur of B.A-III was awarded Mrs. Sharan Makkar Memorial Award of Rs.1100 and a trophy for being the outstanding student in Punjabi.
  • Ms. Jyoti Goyal of B.A-II got Smt. Parbha Kapila Scholarship of Rs. 3600/-.
  • Ms. Ratika Bhambari of B.A-II was awarded Dr. Harjinder Singh Scholarship of Rs. 1500/-.
  • Ms. Shilpa Sharma of M.A-II was awarded Mrs. Pushpa Verma Scholarship of Rs.4500/- and a trophy for standing 1st in M.A-I and her performance in Youth Festivals.
  • Ms. Jatinder Kaur of B.A-II got Mrs. Pushpa Verma Scholarship of Rs.3000/- and a trophy for standing 1st in B.A-II Honours in P.U and her performance in Youth Festivals.
  • Ms. Charu Gupta and Ms. Priyanka of B.Sc-II(N.M) and Ms. Baby and Ms. Miraj Bano of B.A-II were awarded Sh. Dharam Rattan Scholarship of Rs. 3000/- each, given to needy students.
  • Ms. Saloni Walia of B.A-III bagged the Silver Medal for securing highest marks in Psychology in college examination.
  • Ms. Charu Handa of BA-III was declared the All Round Best Student of the college at the Graduate level.
  • Ms. Vandana Bhatt of M.A-II dance was declared the All Round Best Student of the college at the Post-Graduate level.
