...Sugarcane Competition

Bavali (Baghpat), – This prosperous village in Western Uttar Pradesh witnessed an unique farmer oriented programme in the form of Sugarcane competition today. Braving the unusual cold chill in this month, a large number of sugarcane cultivators turned up to participate in the competition in which a team of sugarcane officers judged the quality of sugarcane on the basis of the length of sugarcane sticks in the sugarcane belt of the state.
The programme, on the 108 birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Charan singh, was the brainchild of Rishipal Tomar, a progressive farmer and a social activist. The state agricultural scientists too availed the opportunity to educate and interact with the sugarcane cultivators. The winner bagged the motorcycle while the runners up colour television set and cycle. All the participants were awarded lunch boxes. As many as 1148 sugarcane cultivators took parts in the competition.
Mr. Tomar added that it was the beginning of the ambitious programme to educate and inspire farmers. The follow up programmes will include regular visit of medical vans for the health care of the poor and needy villagers and veterinary camps.
