Chandigarh Rose Festival concludes today

Chandigarh: Sanjay Pahwa : The third day festivity at Rose Garden and Leisure Valley reached its crescendo of movement with thousand of people thronged to see the roses in full bloom. Today the main attraction was “On the spot Painting competition” and “Rose quiz” where artistically inclined children participated enthusiastically. With 850 varieties of 32,500 roses blooming at the Rose Garden, Chandigarh, the city beautiful came alive during three days Rose Festival. People in and across the country witnessed the festival, kicked off from February 25th. A plethora of activities were held in the last three days.
Being Sunday, Huge crowds could be seen milling around the two venues of the annual festival, Zakir Rose Garden, and Leisure Valley. During the day various colourful activities were held. The NZCC artists from the other States gave a wonderful performance and entertained the onlookers with their traditional and folk dance.
Keeping in tune with this ‘On the spot painting competition’ that was organized for different age groups to explore the talent in the children. More than 700 children participated in the competition, in which Mr Vipin Pubby, Resident of The Indian Express, was the Chief Guest.The topics in A,B &C category were Flowers in the pot/my Mother, Kite Flying/Children playing and My Birthday Party /Holi scene. In category A (age group 5-8 years) the first prize was won by Deepanshi Arora and second and third prize were won by Vidhushi Sharma and Kinjal Chander respectively. In category B for children in age group of 8-11 years, first prize was given to Bijetry Kaur and second and third prize to Sorya rahiya and Esha Rajpoot ; in category C for children in age group of 11-14 years, first prize went to Heena Vohra and second and third to Neha and Harnoor respectively. All the winners were felicitated.
In addition to this a Rose quiz completion was also held in the morning at Rose garden. The preliminary of the quiz were held on Feb 22nd and a total of 28 school teams and 6 college teams had participated in it. The final round of the rose quiz were held today .In the college category, the first and second position were bagged by the Government College of Education , sector 20 and Home Science College, Sector- 10, whereas in the school category the first and second prize too were bagged by the Government Model senior secondary School Sector 16, Chandigarh. the chief guest on this occasion was Mr.Ramesh Vinayak , Resident editor, Hindustan Times.
The prize distribution ceremony was also held today and winners of all the competitions organized by the Engineering Department were felicitated. This three day long extravaganza of colour, music and festivity will conclude today at Leisure Valley with a live performance by Mohit Chauhan , Bollywood singer at 7 pm.
