While emphasizing that ensuring inclusive growth was one of the biggest challenges being faced by the nation, Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Science & Technology and Earth Sciences today complemented the banking sector for playing a major role in this area. Shri Bansal was speaking at the 9th Triennial General Council of the State Bank of India Officers Association here today.
Shri Bansal also stressed upon the need for enhancing agricultural credit as well as credit for the informal sector which included Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Complementing the State Bank of India in having done an outstanding job in these areas, the Minister said that SBI has played a major role in the economic development of the country since independence.
The fact that India could successfully emerge out of the global recession is attributed to the outstanding job done by the entire banking sector of the country, Shri Bansal said. Addressing the large gathering of SBI officers, the Minister assured them that he would take up their demands with the Finance Minister of the country.
